Enzo Couacaud has captured his maiden ATP Challenger title, winning the inaugural € 64,000 Cassis Open Provence, held on hard courts at the Tennis Sporting Club des Gorguettes. The 23-year-old qualifier emerged victorious from an all-French final on Sunday with No. 5 seed Ugo Humbert 6-2, 6-3.
Couacaud, who advanced to the title match with main draw wins over top seed Ricardas Berankis, Matthias Bachinger, Scott Griekspoor and Adrian Menéndez-Maceiras, sent down eight aces and won 90 per cent of his first service points. The World No. 560 broke his opponent five times to prevail after one hour and 14 minutes.
By adding his first Challenger trophy to his 12 ITF Pro Circuit titles, the Mauritius native earns €9,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points. Couacaud is projected to rise to World No. 326 on Monday. He will next play the American Express Istanbul Challenger.
