Mixed Feelings For Favourites In Andria

Ugo Humbert, top seed of the Andria E Castel Del Monte Challenger, advanced to the quarterfinals of the €43,000 ATP Challenger event. The World No. 100 from France defeated Uladzimir Ignatik of Belarus 7-6(6), 6-3 at Palasport on Thursday afternoon.

Humbert sent down 10 aces, winning 84 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 43 minutes. The 20-year-old from Metz, who lifted two ATP Challenger trophies this season in Segovia and Ortisei, will next face Ukrainian veteran Sergiy Stakhovsky.

No. 2 seed Lorenzo Sonego fell in the second round. The 23-year-old Italian lost 6-4, 6-4 to Illya Marchenko. The World No. 887 from the Ukraine broke his opponent’s serve three times to secure victory in one hour and 35 minutes. Next up for Marchenko will be fifth favourite Filipo Baldi of Italy.

Roberto Marcora knocked out the tournament’s No. 3 Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 7-6(7) in an all-Italian affair. Marcora outpointed his experienced opponent 72-62 to advance after one hour and 35 minutes. The 29-year-old from Busto Arsizio will next meet Quentin Halys of France.
