BIBERACH, December 6, 2018
Anna-Lena Friedsam and Yannick Maden will lead the entry lists of this year’s German National Tennis Championships. The 47th edition of the indoor tournament will be held in Biberach an der Riß from 9 to 16 December 2018.
Friedsam, representing the TEC Waldau Stuttgart, will return to the courts for the first time since losing to Angelique Kerber in the first round of this year’s Australian Open in January. The 24-year-old dropped to World No. 552 in the WTA-Rankings due to a shoulder injury. Friedsam reached a career high World No. 45 in 2016 and clinched the National women’s singles title two times in 2013 and 2015.
“Our players always feel well in Upper Swabia and we are very happy to come back for the annual season finale. I am very happy for Anna-Lena making her comeback,” Germany’s Fed Cup captain Jens Gerlach said.
Yannick Maden will be the highest ranked male player. The 29-year-old is the current World No. 129. Maden played mainly on the ATP Challenger Tour this year but also reached the quarterfinals at the ATP World Tour events in Budapest and Metz. He also qualified for the main draws at Wimbledon and the US Open. Maden will be joined in Biberach by defending champion Daniel Masur and Oscar Otte.
