The ITF Pro Circuit has returned to Doha this week for the 4th Qatar ITF Futures 2018. Goncalo Oliveira is the champion of the $15,000 hard-court event, held at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.
The No. 2 seed from Portugal defeated fifth favourite Aslan Karatsev of Russia 6-3, 7-5 in Saturday’s singles final. Oliveira converted three of his seven break point chances to prevail after one hour and 36 minutes.
By lifting his first trophy of the season, the left-hander collected $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP-Ranking points.
“I played five good matches and I’ve made it to the doubles final, I’m happy with my performance, Doha is really an amazing city and I enjoyed playing here,” Goncalo said.
“I hope I will win next week, too.”
On Friday, Alexander Igoshin and Evgenii Tiurnev clinched the doubles title. The No. 4 seeded duo from Russia beat the top seeds Goncalo Oliveira and Bernardo Saraiva of Portugal 7-6(12), 6-3. The encounter lasted one hour and 28 minutes.
