Peng Shuai is the champion of the 21st edition of the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge. The 32-year-old from China defeated No. 2 seed Viktória Kužmová of Slovakia 6-3, 6-0 in Saturday’s singles final of the $100,000 ITF Womens Circuit event held at Habtoor Grand Resort in Dubai.

Peng, who only dropped one set en route to the title match, won 77 per cent of her first service points and broke her 20-year-old opponent five times to seal victory in one hour and seven minutes. The World No. 180 lifted her second trophy of the season following her triumph in Houston last month.

Earlier in the day, Alena Fomina and Valentina Ivakhnenko clinched the doubles title. The Russian duo edged past Reka-Luca Jani from Hungary and Cornelia Lister of Sweden 7-5, 6-2. The encounter lasted one hour and 21 minutes.
