ISLAMABAD, December 23, 2018
Kai Wehnelt has clinched his maiden singles title on the ITF Pro Circuit. The 23-year-old German won the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed ITF Futures Championships – 2018 held at the Islamabad Tennis Complex in Pakistan.
Wehnelt, No. 3 seed of the $15,000 Futures event, beat the tournament’s No. 2 Rio Noguchi of Japan 6-1, 7-5 on Saturday. The World No. 718 sent down nine aces and capitalized on four of his eight break point chances to secure victory in one hour and five minutes.
“Pakistan is the luckiest place for me and I can’t wait to come here again. It is my first tour singles title. Although I had won 4 doubles titles, but it will always remain special and close to my heart,” said Wehnelt, who also clinched the doubles title alongside Anton Chekhov of Russia on Friday.
