A Traditional Pottery Making Experience For WTA Stars

Pottery making at the Shenzhen Open

SHENZHEN, January 3, 2019 (Press Release)

Shenzhen Open first round victors Ons Jabeur and Ekaterina Alexandrova took time out on New Year’s Day to indulge in traditional pottery making at the stadium.

Guided by a local master in traditional pottery making, the Tunisian world No.60 and Russian world no. 73 enjoyed themselves trying to fashion Chinese vases from clay on pottery wheels.

“It was fun, but it was kind of difficult too – because I know I can easily screw it all up. It’s my third time here and I hope I can stay here longer. I like it here and I’m happy to play here,” said the 24-year-old Alexandrova.

“Looks like mine is better! We enjoyed making it a lot. Maybe you guys can buy it… it’s really expensive,” quipped 24-year-old Jabeur. “It’s my third time here too and I like it very much. I like the good vibes here. Hopefully I can go far in the main draw.”
