ORLANDO, January 3, 2019
Wednesday’s action at the Orlando Open was punctuated by more upsets as US-Americans Stefan Kozlov, Ulises Blanch and Michael Redlicki knocked off a trio of seeded players.
Kozlov scored the biggest upset of the day knocking off the tournament’s No. 2 seed, fellow US-American Mitchell Krueger, in three sets.
Blanch downed the tournament’s No. 3 seed Thiemo de Bakker of the Netherlands, while Redlicki, who defeated fellow US-American and eighth-seeded JC Aragone, joined Sam Riffice as US-American wild card recipients to reach the third round. No. 11 seed Kevin King was the lone US-American seeded player to advance on Wednesday.
The tournament, which is a USTA Pro Circuit ATP Challenger event, is the first USTA Pro Circuit ATP Challenger event of the 2019 season and is the highest level of tennis on display to date at the USTA National Campus, with a prize-money pool of more than $54,000.
Play continues Thursday with the start of the third round of singles matches as well as the doubles quarterfinals. Play begins at 10 a.m. Admission to the Orlando Open is free.
