Teams Announced For 2019 Davis Cup Qualifiers

ITF Press Release, January 23, 2019

The ITF announced on Tuesday the official team nominations for the 24 nations competing in the 2019 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Qualifiers on 1-2 February.

The Davis Cup Qualifiers, taking place across 12 different cities on a home-and-away basis, launch the 2019 Davis Cup season, with nations bidding for 12 places in the inaugural Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals at La Caja Magica in Madrid, Spain on 18-24 November.

Qualifier ties will consist of four singles rubbers and one doubles rubber with all matches played over the best of three tiebreak sets. Two singles rubbers will be played on Friday 1 February, with the doubles followed by the two reverse singles rubbers on Saturday 2 February. The draws will take place on Thursday 31 January.

The 12 winning nations will join the 2018 semifinalists (Croatia, France, Spain and USA) plus two wild card nations (Argentina and Great Britain) in the Davis Cup season finale. The 12 losing nations will compete in their respective 2019 Zone Group competition.

ITF President David Haggerty said: “This is an exciting new chapter in Davis Cup’s long and distinguished history, mixing tradition and innovation. I have no doubt that next week’s Qualifiers will stimulate the passion in fans and players that has always been a feature of Davis Cup, and that this will carry through to the Finals where we will witness a magnificent world-class sporting spectacle. I would like to wish all nations competing in the Qualifiers the best of luck.”
