MARSEILLE, February 24, 2019

Stefanos Tsitsipas lifted his second ATP Tour title on Sunday, beating Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan 7-5, 7-6(5) at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille.

The 20-year-old from Greece fired 14 aces, winning 84 per cent of his first service points to secure victory in just under two hours of play.

Tsitispas owns an 11-4 record this season, becoming the youngest Grand Slam semi-finalist since Novak Djokovic 2007 at the Australian Open. Tsitsipas lifted his maiden ATP Tour title in Stockholm last October before triumphing at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan.

“Winning titles is the thing that I am working for… It is the biggest satisfaction and the biggest joy in tennis,” said Tsitsipas, who collects €115,235 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.

Chardy/Martin take doubles title

Earlier in the day, Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin captured their second ATP Tour team title. The duo from France defeated Ben McLachlan of Japan and Matwe Middelkoop from the Netherlands 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-3. The doubles final lasted one hour and 17 minutes.

Chardy and Martin have become the 12th all-French team to hoist the trophies in Marseille since the tournament began in 1993.

“It feels great to win a title at home in France in front of our families and friends. It is a first for us,” said Chardy.

“The goal is to be able to play together during the clay season,” added Martin.
