The four remaining players to advance to the Men’s Singles Main Draw at the Odlum Brown VanOpen were decided on Monday at the tournament as the Men’s Qualifying Round came to an end.
Among the players moving on into the Main Draw of the US-$ 100,000 ATP Challenger is top qualifying round seed Guido Andreozzi of Argentina, who dispatched North Vancouver’s Philip Bester 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Daniel Evans of Great Britain, who was runner-up to Vasek Pospisil at the Odlum Brown VanOpen in 2013, knocked off second seed Mathias Bourgue of France 6-4, 6-0. Seventh seed Maxime Hamou advanced with a 6-0, 6-4 win over wild card Mackenzie McDonald of the U.S. and former World No. 8 Radek Stepanek is into the main draw following a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Bulgarian Dimitar Kutrovsky.
Later in the day, Bester found out he was inserted into the Main Draw as a ‘Lucky Loser’ after a player withdrew. His first round opponent is Andreozzi, the man who knocked him out of qualifying.
