Following the clay-court tournaments in Marbella and Alicante, the city of Murcia will be the third stop of the ATP Challenger Tour on Spanish soil this season. The local Murcia Club de Tenis 1919 is playing host to the €46,600 event for the first time and celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The inaugural edition of the Murcia Open will be held from 8 to 14 April 2019.
Murcia is situated in the Segura valley in south-eastern Spain, the capital and most populous city of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, and the seventh largest city in the country, with a population of 447,182 inhabitants.
The tournament’s entry list is led by World No. 105 Pedro Sousa from Portugal, World No. 113 Roberto Carballés Baena of Spain and Brazilian Thiago Monteiro, who is currently ranked at World No. 117. The line-up represents a good mixture of experienced players and young talents.
Lukas Rosol from the Czech Republic, Spanish veterans Daniel Gimeno-Traver and Tommy Robredo can be found on the list together with names of Mikael Ymer from Sweden, Spanish Next Gens Bernabé Zapata Miralles and Nicola Kuhn as well as Rudolf Molleker from Germany and Frenchman Johan Tatlot.
