LUDWIGSHAFEN, April 27, 2019
The Ludwigshafen Challenger will be the first event on the ATP Challenger Tour worldwide featuring a 56-man main draw. The tournament with a total prize money of €46,600 will be held at the venue of the BASF TC Ludwigshafen from 1 to 7 July 2019.
“Conditions here are absolutely extraordinary,” organizer and tournament director Heiko Hampl is excited. The summer clay-court event has moved from Marburg to Ludwigshafen for the first time this year. Having the unique characterisque of a larger field than other ATP Challenger tournaments, six wild card entries will be found in the singles main draw.
Hampl announced on Friday that the first one has been awarded to 23-year-old local player Vincent Schneider, who earned his first ATP-Ranking points six years ago reaching a career-high World No. 1,364. “Local players are always that extra something for a tournament,” Hampl said and hopes for interesting match-ups.
Speaking of USPs, the Ludwigshafen Challenger is taking place during the first week of Wimbledon and will be the lone ATP Challenger event to be held this particular week.
