Andrej Martin lifts the trophy at Nanchang Challenger

NANCHANG, April 29, 2019

Andrej Martin claimed the title of the 2019 Gangjiang New Area International Challenger Nanchang held on clay courts at the Zhongchang Hongwang Center. The unseeded player from Slovakia upset the tournament’s No. 1 Jordan Thompson in the Sunday’s singles final, winning 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

Martin capitalized on five of his nine break point chances to secure victory in two hours and nine minutes. The World No. 255 advanced to the title match with wins over Tristan Lamasine from France, Aussie Alex Bolt, Goncalo Oliveira of Portugal Ben Patael from Israel and Nikola Milojevic of Serbia.

By lifting his first trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour since Liberec in August last year, his 10th overall, Martin takes away $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points.

“I am very happy to take this title here, winning six matches in a row is a big achievement. My tennis is good right now and I hope to keep up the momentum,” Martin said.

On Saturday, Sander Arends from the Netherlands and Tristan-Samuel Weissborn of Austria took the doubles title. The No. 2 seeds defeated the all-Australian combination of Alex Bolt and Akira Santillan 6-2, 6-4. The encounter lasted only 52 minutes.
