Blaz Rola has captured his first title of the season, winning the $54,160 Torneo Challenger León held on hard courts at the Club Raqueta Britania de León. The No. 14 seed from Slovenia fought past Liam Broady from Great Britain 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.
Rola, who advanced to the title match with wins over Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland, French ITF-entry Manuel Guinard, Gonzalo Escobar of Ecuador and Briton James Ward into the title match, broke Broady’s serve three times to secure victory in exactly two hours of play.
It has been Rola’s first title since Tallahassee 2017 and his first as a father. “This trophy goes to my daughter Izabela,” Rola posted on instagram.
By lifting his fourth ATP Challenger career trophy, the 28-year-old collects $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
On Saturday, Lucas Miedler and Sebastian Ofner captured the doubles title. The all-Austrian combination rallied past Matt Reid and John-Patrick Smith from Australia 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. The encounter lasted one huor and five minutes.
