MANERBIO, August 30, 2015
In the final between the two top seeds of the € 42,500 Manerbio Challenger, the tournament’s second favourite had the better ending.
Andrey Kuznetsov defeated Daniel Muῆoz de la Nava, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. The 24-year-old Russian won 81% of his first service points, lost his service twice but capitalized on four of his own break points to seal victory in one hour and 35 minutes.
Kuznetsov lifted his first trophy since winning in Ostrava last year. It was his sixth career title on the ATP Challenger Tour. “The qualification of the US-Open is very challenging and I didn’t have a guarantee of reaching the main draw. This is why I made the choice to play here,” the new world number 90 told at the beginning of this week.
Kuznetsov won € 6,150 in prize money and gained 90 ATP ranking points. Muῆoz de la Nava can be also satisfied with his week. By the age of 33, the Spaniard made it into the top 100 for the very first time. He has become the new world number 89.
