The Complex of the “Magic Box” is home to the Madrid Open since 2009

MADRID, May 5, 2019

The Mutua Madrid Open is the second of three clay-court ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. Rafael Nadal will look to add to his record haul of five titles in Madrid and 33 at Masters 1000 tournaments. The No. 2 seed from Spain will open his home campaign against a Canadian, either wild card entry Felix Auger-Aliassime or Denis Shapovalov.

Novak Djokovic, who has a 2-0 mark in Madrid finals, can match the Spaniard’s Masters 1000 titles record with victory this coming week. The World No. 1 will start against a qualifier or Grigor Dimitrov. Alexander Zverev enters as the defending champion, while three-time Madrid titlist Roger Federer makes his first appearance on clay since 2016.
