The favourites of the € 106,500 AON Open Challenger advanced to the second round in Genova.
Top-seed Albert Ramos remained untroubled in his opening match, winning 6-2, 6-0 against Marton Fucsovics. The defending champion and world number 58 from Spain saved the only break point he faced and capitalized on five of his own to seal victory in 67 minutes.
Ramos will take on Horacio Zeballos next. The 30-year-old Argentine dismissed Laslo Djere, winning 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 19 minutes.
The tournament’s number two Robin Haase defeated Matteo Donati, winning 6-2, 6-2. The world number 79 from the Netherlands didn’t face a break Point and capitalized on four of his own to close the match after only 57 minutes. Haase will play French qualifier Sadio Doumbia next.
Third favourite Paolo Lorenzi beat Mate Delic through a 6-2, 6-4 victory. The 33-year-old Italian won all of his 20 first service points and also saved all of the two break points he faced. Lorenzi gained three breaks and closed the match after one hour and 13 minutes to set a second round clash with fellow countryman Filippo Volandri. The 34-year-old from Livorno beat with Andrea Arnaboldi another Italian. Volandri won 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. The match lasted one hour and 44 minutes.
The tournament’s number five Marco Cecchinato emerged victorious from the all-Italian-affair, winning 6-3, 5-7, 7-6. The 22-year-old from Palermo fired eight aces and won 67% of his first service points to overcome his opponent after two hours and 44 minutes. Cecchinato will play Aldin Setkic next.
