Roberto Carballés Baena is the champion of the third edition of the Lisboa Belém Open held on the clay courts of the CIF – Club International de Football. The No. 2 seed from Spain stormed back from 2-6, 0-3 down to seal a 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-1 victory against 10th favourite Facundo Bagnis of Argentina in the singles final on Sunday morning.
Carballés Baena sent down four aces, winning 77 per cent of his first service points to prevail after two hours and 19 minutes. By lifting his seventh ATP Challenger trophy, the World No. 86 from Granada earned €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
“I played well right from the start of the match, but Facundo played at really high level. I am happy to complete the turnaround in the second set. Now I’m going to rest, recover and on Thursday I will go to Roland Garros, full of motivation after winning my second title of the year,” Carballés Baena commented following his first triumph on Portuguese soil.
Last year’s champion in the capital city of Portugal was Tommy Robredo from Spain. Oscar Otte of Germany won the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2017.
