Johanna Konta continued her great run of form at Roland Garros by reaching the quarterfinals in Paris. The 26th seed from Great Britain eased past No. 23 seed Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-2, 6-4 on Sunday afternoon.

Konta sent down seven aces, winning 69 per cent of her first service points to secure victory in one hour and 24 minutes on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. The 28-year-old has advanced to the last eight at a Grand Slam for the fourth time.

“I have only been at this stage a handful of times,” said Konta, who had never won a main-draw match at the French Open before this year. “So to be back here, I’m definitely very pleased.

“This is not my end goal or anything, I would love to be here until the very end, but I’m also doing my best at really enjoying the different matches I get to play and the different accomplishments that I get to experience. Today was definitely one.”

Konta will next take on Sloane Stephens, who defeated No. 19 seeded Spaniard Garbine Muguruza 6-4, 6-3 later in the day on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

The seventh favourite from the United States converted four of her eight break point chances to advance in one hour and 40 minutes. The win sends Stephens back into the Roland Garros quarterfinals for the second year in a row,
