Dennis Novikov claimed his maiden ATP Challenger title, winning the final of the Cary Tennis Championships against fellow US-American Ryan Harrison.
The 21-year-old, who was born in Moscow, withstood ten aces from his opponent, won 78% of his first service points and converted all of the three break points he gained to close the encounter after one hour and 18 minutes, winning 6-4, 7-5.
Novikov takes away US-$ 7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP ranking points. “Very happy to get my first Challenger title, especially in the USA! Thanks to everyone for the support and to Cary for hosting a great event,” he wrote on twitter.
Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola captured the doubles title, winning 6-4, 6-7, 10-4 against Austin Krajicek and Nicholas Monroe in one hour and 33 minutes.
