Three players from Austria will join Dominic Thiem at this year’s Generali Open. Jurij Rodionov, Sebastian Ofner and Dennis Novak have been awarded a wild card into the main draw of the ATP 250 tournament in Kitzbühel to be held from July 27 to August 3, 2019.

Three years ago Novak teamed up with Thiem to reach the doubles final. Ofner advanced to the semi-finals in 2017. Rodionov qualified for his first main draw on the ATP Tour last year.

“All three wild cards will go to Austrian players this year, as we want to focus on the local favourites,” tournament director Alex Antonitsch stated in a press release. Lucas Miedler was granted a wild card into the qualifying.

The clay-court event is waiting for its first Austrian singles champion since 1993, when Thomas Muster won the title. Thiem came close with a runner-up finish in 2014. Local resident Philipp Kohlschreiber lifted the trophy in 2015 and 2017.
