Dusan Lajovic is the champion of the 30th edition of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag. The No. 4 seed from Serbia defeated Hungarian qualifier Attila Balazs 7-5, 7-5 in Sunday’s singles final to claim his maiden trophy on the ATP Tour.

Lajovic, who only dropped one set en route to the title match, capitalized on four of his nine break point chances to secure victory in one hour and 50 minutes. The 29-year-old Belgrade native takes away from Istria €90,399 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.

“It was a match that I’ll remember for the rest of my career,” said Lajovic. “I couldn’t be happier that I won. I had to work for every point, so I’m tired now, but also relieved to have to won my first title.

“I have been coming to Umag for twelve years now, and I have competed in both junior tournaments and the ATP tournament seven or eight times. This is one of the best ATP Tour 250 tournaments and I could not be happier with the fact that I have claimed my very first title here.”

In April, Lajovic became the second player since 2013 to reach his first tour-level final at an ATP Masters 1000 event. He finished runner-up to Italy’s Fabio Fognini at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.

By reaching his first final on the ATP Tour, Balazs earns 150 ATP Ranking points and €48,870. “I was ready for him to play at a high level. He was very fresh and motivated, so I knew he was going to play his best,” said Balazs. “I also tried my best, but he was better today.”
