ROME, October 3, 2015
Federico Delbonis and Filip Krajinovic will go head to head in Sunday’s final at the € 42,500 BFD Energy Challenger in Rome.
In Saturday’s round of the final four, the first seed from Argentina won two tie-breaks against third favourite Dusan Lajovic. Delbonis hit five aces, saved two of the five break points he faced and capitalized on three of his own to seal the 7-6, 7-6 victory in two hours and 11 minutes reaching his third final of the season. The world number 67 from Azul captured the ATP Challenger titles in Sarasota and Milan this year.
Filip Krajinovic defeated Marco Cecchinato for the second time in their second tour meeting, winning 7-5, 6-4. The fifth seeded Serbian won 69% of his first service points and converted three of his five break points to prevail in one hour and 43 minutes. Krajinovic also advanced to his third final of the season lifting the trophies in Braunschweig and Cordenons earlier this year.
Delbonis and Krajinovic will meet for the first time on the tour.
Earlier the day, Polish tandem Tomasz Bednarek and Mateusz Kowalczyk captured the doubles title, winning 6-2, 6-1 against Spanish-Dutch-combination of Inigo Cervantes and Mark Vervoort in only 54 minutes.
