NEW HAVEN, September 5, 2019
Top seed Andreas Seppi opened his title bid at Oracle Challenger Series with a 7-6(3), 6-3 win over New Haven native Roy Smith. The World No. 77 from Italy saved the only break point he faced and broke the US-American’s serve one time to advance to the third round after one hour and 32 minutes.
Seppi will next take on No. 16 seed Peter Polansky from Canada, who defeated Evan Zhu from the United States 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 24 minutes.
No. 6 seed Tommy Paul beat fellow US-American Thai-Son Kwiatkowski 7-6(3), 6-4. Michael Mmoh upset No. 5 seed Denis Kudla 7-5, 6-0 in an all-US-American encounter and No. 3 seed Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia and Herzegovina cruised past Petros Chrysochos of Cyprus 6-3, 6-2.
Six total matches (two singles / four doubles) were suspended due to darkness.
