HONOLULU, September 6, 2019 (Press Release)
Bianca Andreescu, who competed in the US Open semi-finals, and Milos Raonic, 2016 Wimbledon finalist, have committed to play in the 2019 Hawaii Open Tennis Tournament, presented by the Hawaii Tourism Authority. They join US Open semi-finalist and ATP World Tour No. 7 Kei Nishikori, three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber, 2019 Australian Open semi-finalist, Danielle Collins, and 2017 Wimbledon semi-finalist, Sam Querrey. The Hawaii Open will be held Dec. 26-28, in Honolulu.
Bianca Andreescu has had a breakout 2019 year, capturing two titles so far at Indian Wells and Rogers Cup. She is competing in the US Open semi-final match today. In 2018, she was a finalist in Auckland and also represents Canada in the Fed Cup. The 19-year-old Canadian turned pro in 2017 and is currently ranked No. 15 on the WTA Tour.
“I am truly excited to come to Hawaii this year to play the Hawaii Open. It will be my first time there, and I really look forward to discovering the wonderful island of Oahu,” said Andreescu. “The tournament will be, I’m sure, the perfect preparation for my Australian swing as I will get the chance to play some great matches against very good players in a very nice location. Can’t wait!”
Milos Raonic will be returning to the Hawaii Open in 2019 after facing Kei Nishikori in the finals last year. Raonic turned pro in 2008, reached a career-high of No. 3 on the ATP World Tour, and has since captured eight titles, his most recent being Brisbane in 2016 when he defeated Roger Federer.
“I had such a great time playing in the Hawaii Open last year, and I am excited to compete once again,” said Raonic. “The island is beautiful, and I loved exploring and learning how to surf.”
