The inaugural edition of the Angogerman Oeste Ladies Open, the biggest international women’s tennis tournament held in Portugal since 2014, organized by Capital Events at the Caldas da Rainha Municipal Tennis Complex, concluded with Isabella Shinikova clinching the title. The Bulgarian benefited from the retirement of Serbian Natalija Kostic leading 6-3, 2-0 in Sunday’s singles final.
Kostic, who was seeking her 14th title on the ITF Pro Circuit was forced to stop playing due to an abdominal injury after only 52 minutes. “The pain affected my serve. Health is the most important thing and I had to be professional and think about my future,” Kostic explained.
By lifting the trophy of ITF World Tennis Tour W60 hard-court event, Shinikova earned her biggest career title. The 27-year-old celebrated her 22nd title. The Sofia native also won the doubles championship in Portugal alongside
“Thank you very much for everything,” Shinikova said during the on-court ceremony. “I am very happy to have won the singles and doubles competition, this is the first time I have done so. Thanks to the organization, the sponsors, the referees, the ball kids and everyone who came here to see us play. ”
