Sumit Nagal clinched the title of the Challenger Buenos Aires held on clay at the Racket Club. The World No. 135 from India defeated local favourite and No. 8 seed Facundo Bagnis 6-4, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.
Nagal, who advanced to the title match with wins over Pedro Sakamoto of Brazil, Jose Hernandez Fernandez from the Dominican Republic, Facundo Cerundolo of Argentina and No. 4 seeded Brazilian Thiago Monteiro, sent down seven aces and won 62 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 37 minutes.

“It feels great. Any time you win a Challenger and you win matches, it’s a great moment. I’m going to enjoy it as much as possible,” said Nagal, who lifted his second ATP Challenger crown following his maiden triumph on home soil in Bangalore two years ago. The No. 7 seed took away from Argentina $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

Earlier in the day, Guido Andreozzi and Andres Molteni from Argentina took the doubles title. The top seeds rallied past Hugo Dellien and Federico Zeballos of Bolivia, winning 6-7(3), 6-2, 10-1. The encounter lasted one hour and 17 minutes.
