Mikael Ymer is the champion of the €92,040 Internationaux de Tennis de Vendée held at the Vendespace Arena in La Roche sur Yon. The No. 3 seed from Sweden defeated Mathias Bourgue of France 6-1, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.
Ymer advanced to the title match with wins over Italian Luca Vanni, Oscar Otte from Germany, Frenchman Antoine Hoang and No. 15 seed Jiri Vesely from the Czech Republic. The 21-year-old from Stockholm withstood 10 aces and broke his opponent’s serve three four times to prevail after one hour and nine minutes.

“I think I played well from the beginning of the tournament,” said Ymer, quoted on the ATP Challenger Tour website. “I had some tight matches because my opponents had a very good level in the first few stages. I had to get used to the surface, which is a little different here, with the [orange] colour. But once I took my bearings, I felt better and better.”
Mikael follows in the footsteps of his brother Elias, who clinched the title here in western France the past two years. Mikael lifted his fourth ATP Challenger trophy of the season and took away €12,250 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points. He will rise to a new career high at World No. 75 on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Jonny O’Mara and Ken Skupski from Great Britian captured the doubles title. The No. 4 seeds defeated Sander Arends and David Pel from the Netherlands 6-1, 6-4. The encounter lasted 52 minutes.
