The top two seeds of the Open Brest Credit Agricole had a successful start into the tournament, making their way into the third round of the ATP Challenger 100 event.
No. 1 seed Ugo Humbert remained untroubled during his 6-4, 6-1 win over fellow Frenchman Maxime Janvier on Wednesday. The World No. 63 didn’t face a break point and capitalized on four of his own seven break point chances to advance in only 55 minutes. Next up for Humbert will be Evgeny Karlovskiy from Russia, who defeated No. 15 seed Enzo Couacaud of France 6-2, 6-4.
Roberto Carballes Baena emerged victorious from the all-Spanish encounter with Carlos Taberner. The No. 2 seed won 58 per cent of the total points played to secure a 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-1 victory in one hour and 48 minutes. Carballes Baena will play another compatriot in the third round, facing veteran Guillermo Garcia Lopez. The 36-year-old from Albacete fought past Russian youngster Pavel Kotov 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in one hour and 51 minutes.
