HOUSTON, November 16, 2019

No. 4 seed Marcos Giron and the tournament’s No. 8 Mitchell Krueger will compete for a spot in Sunday’s final of the Oracle Challenger Series Houston. On a sunny and mild Friday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, Giron battled through both of his matches, needing three sets to defeat Jenson Brooksby from the United States 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the third round, as well as Jason Jung of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.

Meanwhile, his opponent Krueger captured straight set victories over Pedja Krstin from Serbia 7-6(4), 6-4 and fellow US-American Michael Redlicki 6-4, 6-4. The second semi-final will feature 40-year-old veteran and all-time ATP Tour ace leader Ivo Karlovic of Croatia against Australian Christopher O’Connell, who advanced to the stage of the final four when US-American Michael Mmoh retired from their quarterfinal match after only five games.

“It would top off my year to win a title here,” O’Connell said, quoted by the Oracle Challenger Series website. “I’ve surprised myself this season honestly. For now, I’m focusing on the semis, but just two more matches…hopefully I can do it.”
