STUTTGART, December 10, 2019
Nick Kyrgios will join Alexander Zverev at the 2020 MercedesCup to be held on 6 to 14 June at the Tennis Club Weissenhof in Stuttgart. The 24-year-old Australian clinched two titles in 2019 winning the ATP 500 tournaments in Acapulco and Washington.
Kyrgios, a six-time champion on the ATP Tour, will return to the grass-court event after falling to Roger Federer in the semi-finals last year.
“We are very pleased to announce Nick Kyrgios as the second player at the MercedesCup 2020 after the commitment of Alexander Zverev. Both are colourful characters on the ATP Tour, who will also be among the title favorites on the grass courts at Stuttgart’s Weissenhof with their multi-variant game,” tournament director Edwin Weindorfer is convinced.
The MercedesCup opens the extended grass-court swing alongside the tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The first edition of the tournament in Stuttgart was held in 1898, with Mercedes-Benz assuming the role of title sponsor in 1979. There’s always an added incentive for ATP Tour players to win the tournament: the champion takes home a new Mercedes-Benz.
