Australian Open 2020 Play-Off: Women’s Action Gets Underway

Competition continued on Tuesday for the Australian Open 2020 Wildcard Play-off, where some of Australia’s top players are competing for a coveted Australian Open 2020 wildcard.

Women’s first round action got underway with top seed Maddison Inglis pushed to three sets by 15-year-old Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz (SA). Inglis is joined by Destanee Aiava (Vic), Belinda Woolcock (Vic), Arina Rodionova (Vic), Olivia Tjandramulia (Qld), Gabriella Da Silva Fick (NSW), and Storm Sanders (WA) in the  quarterfinal stage which will take place on Thursday 12 December. Second seed Lizette Cabrera was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to personal reasons.

Men’s quarterfinals will take place from 10.00 am tomorrow with top seed Alex Bolt (SA), Tristan Schoolkate (WA), John-Patrick Smith (Qld), Aleksandar Vukic (NSW), Harry Bourchier (Tas), Maverick Banes (Qld), Max Purcell (NSW) and Luke Saville (SA) all competing for a place in the semifinals.

The December Showdown presented by Kia continues at Melbourne Park with the 12/u Australian Championships underway today and the 16/u Australian Championships commencing tomorrow.
