First players have arrived in Doha to compete in this year’s Qatar ExxonMobil Open. World No. 16 Stan Wawrinka will be the top seed of the hard-court event, held at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex from January 6 to 11. The 34-year-old from Switzerland is seeking his 17th career title on the ATP Tour, his first since lifting the trophy on home soil in Geneva 2017.

Wawrinka will be joined by Russian young gun Andrey Rublev, Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Milos Raonic of Canada.

2019 ATP 250 tournament of the year

The Qatar ExxonMobil Open, one of two ATP Tour events held in the Middle East, has been selected by players as the ATP 250 Tournament of the Year on three occasions in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

“We are greatly delighted with the latest recognition of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open as the tournament of the year 2019,” tournament director Karim Alami said.

“Qatar Tennis Federation, under the dynamic leadership of the president HE Nasser Ghanim Al Khelaifi, has always aimed at organizing an event where the players feel at home and the fans leave with long-lasting memories. Our passion and commitment to tennis have consistently propelled us in pushing for the best at all times and it is, therefore, no surprise that we are receiving this award for the third time in five years. We thank all the players for voting us and we hereby reiterate our commitment to maintaining the standard and making each edition better than the previous.”
