Zdenek Kolar headlined Thursday’s third-round action at the Open Quimper Bretagne Occidentale by knocking out the top seed of the €46,600 ATP Challenger Tour event. The No. 14 seed from the Czech Republic defeated Spanish veteran Guillermo Garcia Lopez 6-4, 6-3.
Kolar converted four of his eight break point chances to secure victory in one hour and 37 minutes. The 23-year-old will next take on No. 5 seed Maxime Janvier. The Frenchman edged past Daniel Masur from Germany 6-4, 6-3 in 69 minutes.
Lukas Lacko remains the highest-ranked player left in the singles draw. The No. 3 from Slovakia remained untroubled during his 6-2, 6-2 win over Spanish hard-court specialist Roberto Ortega-Olmedo. Lacko won 58 per cent of the total points played to advance in 61 minutes. Up next for Lacko will be Vit Kopriva from the Czech Republic, who upset No. 6 seed Alexey Vatutin of Russia 7-6(2), 7-6(4). The encounter lasted one hour and 51 minutes.
