KNOXVILLE, November 14, 2015
Three US-Americans and one British player were in action on semi-finals Saturday at the US-$ 50,000 Knoxville Challenger, taking place at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center on the University of Tennessee campus.
Frances Tiafoe defeated fellow US-American Dennis Novikov, winning 6-4, 6-4. The 17-year-old from Florida fired 13 aces and won 80% of his first service points to prevail in 68 minutes. After Hyeon Chung, Taylor Fritz and Jorad Donaldson, Tiafoe has become the fourth teenager to reach multiple ATP Challenger finals this season. He will also become the youngest player in the top 200 on Monday, joining Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev as lone 18-unders.
Tiafoe will face Daniel Evans in Sunday’s final. The world number 271 from England ousted Jared Donaldson, winning 6-3, 6-4. Evans didn’t face a break point and capitalized on two of his own to advance after 68 minutes.
Tiafoe and Evans will meet for the first time on the tour in order to clinch their first Challenger title of the season.
