Juij Rodionov continues his good run of form by winning his second ATP Challenger Tour title of the season. The 20-year-old Austrian emerged victorious from Sunday’s singles final of the Morelos Open Credito Real, held at the Hotel Racquet Cuernavaca in Morelos. He beat No. 9 seed Juan Pablo Ficovich of Argentina 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Rodionov, who came from a set down for the consecutive time this week following his semi-final win over Guilherme Clezar of Brazil, capitalized on six of his 12 break point chances to secure victory in one hour and 42 minutes.
The No. 10 seed of the $54,160 hard-court event pocketed $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points in Mexico. Rodionov clinched his third career title on the ATP Challenger Tour. The NextGen ATP-player lifted the trophies in Almaty, Kazakhstan two years ago and in Dallas, Texas last month.
On Saturday, Luke Saville and John-Patrick Smith captured the doubles title. The top seeds from Australia battled past Carlos Gomez-Herrera of Spain and Shintaro Mochizuki from Japan 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-5. The encounter lasted one hour and 32 minutes.
