AUGSBURG, April 21, 2020

The Isar One GmbH, organizers of the Schwaben Open, announced on Monday the cancellation of the 2020 edition of the ATP Challenger 80 event, scheduled from August 3 to 9 at the Tennis Club Augsburg Siebentisch, due to the exceptional situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and following the measures imposed by the Government of Germany prohibiting the holding of sporting events until August 31, 2020.

“We understand the security measures that the government must put in place to ensure the health and safety of everyone,” organizer Alessandra Trenkle and her team stated in a press release. “We would like to thank our loyal partners, who supported us through the crisis. We are looking forward to the tournament’s second edition in 2021.”

The tournament celebrated its inaugural edition last summer when local favourite Yannick Hanfmann powered to his fifth ATP Challenger Tour career title and fourth on home soil following his triumphs in Ismaning 2017, Braunschweig 2018 and Ludwigshafen earlier in 2019. The German, a former University of Southern California standout, saved three match points to overcome Finnish young gun Emil Ruusuvuori in three sets.

As the tournament is set to return next year, tickets remain valid. For more information, please visit the official website of the Schwaben Open.
