STARNBERG, April 24, 2020

Due to the exceptional situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic and following the measures imposed by the Government of Germany prohibiting the holding of sporting events until August 31, 2020 the inaugural bett1 Open in Berlin cannot be held this year.

The WTA Premier grass-court event is now scheduled to take place on June 12 to 20, 2021 at the venue of the LTTC „Rot-Weiß“ e.V.

“This was a decision that the WTA and its members did not take lightly, however we remain vigilant in protecting the health and safety of our players, staff and fans,” said Steve Simon, WTA Chairman and CEO. “While we share in the disappointment of the season’s further postponement, our priority remains to support each other during this unprecedented time and work together as a sport in preparation of our return to play.”

“Right now it is of the utmost importance to follow the authority measures to stop the corona pandemic as quickly as possible. Health is the most important thing. Naturally, this is also valid for the tennis tour,” said tournament director Barbara Rittner.
