Yannick Hanfmann remains unbeaten after Day 2 of the Tennis Point Exhibition Series held on indoor clay at the BASE Tennis Academy in Höhr-Grenzhausen. Following two wins on the opening day, the 28-year-old German added two more victories on Saturday.
In the match of the day between the tournament’s top two ranked players, Hanfmann defeated World No. 239 Dustin Brown 4-3 (7-4) 4-0. The World No. 143 from Karlsruhe capitalized on three of his five break point chances to secure victory in 55 minutes.
“It’s always fun to play against Dreddy and I felt good on the court this afternoon,” Hanfmann said after his fourth match win this weekend.
Hanfmann tested by Schmitz
Earlier in the day, Hanfmann recovered from a bumpy start to overcome Constantin Schmitz 0-4, 4-1, 4-1. Schmitz, a former college player and two-time ITA All-American as well as Tulane University Male Student-Athlete of the Year 2017-18, took the first set in only 12 minutes. Hanfmann found his rhythm with the start of the second set and fought back to finish the encounter after one hour and nine minutes.
“It became a longer evening yesterday when I had to play a kind of a night session against Benjamin Hassan. So it was a bit of a cold start into the match this morning but Constantin made a good job. I recovered well and I am happy with the outcome,” Hanfmann said.
