STARNBERG, May 3, 2020
Jan Choinski headlined Sunday’s action at the Tennis Point Exhibition Series. The 23-year-old Koblenz native has become the first player this weekend at the BASE Tennis Academy in Höhr-Grenzhausen to beat top-ranked Yannick Hanfmann of Germany. Choinski won 4-3, 4-3 in a close encounter.
“I feel great now,” Choinski said in his post-match interview. “It is only an exhibition match but we both gave our best. It is only a matter of practice and we all will feel better on the court.”
Choinski got to his best in the tie-break of each set. “I didn’t serve well at the beginning of the match. Yannick returned well and I did a couple of stupid mistakes but the longer the match lasted, the better became my serve and my forehand. I just gonna try to keep the level up for the upcoming matches.”
Choinski, a German-born British tennis player of Polish descent, was representing Germany from the beginning of his career until the end of 2018 and is currently playing for Great Britain. Choinski has a career high ATP singles ranking of World No. 234, achieved in April 2018.
He made his main draw debut on the ATP Tour at the 2016 MercedesCup in Stuttgart, where he was given a wild card into the singles draw.
Later in the afternoon, Choinski also won his second match of the day, as he eased past local favourite Benjamin Hassan 4-1, 4-1.
