KITZBÜHEL, May 30, 2020

From July 7th to 11th, Austria’s top-ranked tennis player Dominic Thiem invites seven of his colleagues to a top-class prize money tournament in Kitzbühel. This was announced by the KTC Turnier GmbH on Saturday. The first competitor to play the exhibition event has already been announced: Frenchman Gael Monfils will come to the Tyrol for the first time.

The tournament will be organized by Herbert Günther and Markus Bodner, who are also responsible for the annualy Generali Open ATP 250 event. Dominic’s father Wolfgang Thiem will be the event’s sports director.

“Together with Wolfgang and Dominic, who is in contact with the players, we will invite seven other top European players to Kitzbühel for a week. In addition to top-class matches and appropriate competition practice, the stars can spend a wonderful time with their families in Kitzbühel,” explain Herbert Günther and Markus Bodner in a press release.

The total prize money will be € 300,000. The winner will receive € 100,000. As at the Nitto ATP Finals, matches will be played in a round-robin format with two groups: “From Tuesday (July 7th) we are planning a day and a night session every day. In front of a limited audience and, of course, strictly in accordance with the regulations of the Austrian federal government applicable in July,” said tournament director Florian Zinnagl.

More specific information on the conditions and the number of online tickets issued will follow in the coming weeks. The tounament’s top matches will be broadcast live on TV.

At the same time, Generali Open Kitzbühel tournament director Alexander Antonitsch is in regualar contact with the ATP and is trying to do everything possible to be able to host the 76th edition of the ATP 250 clay-court tournament in Kitzbühel in September.
