MUNICH, June 10, 2020
Daniel Masur took the lead in Group 3 and booked his place in the intermediate stage of the Tannenhof Resort German Men’s Series. Following his win in his opening match yesterday, the World No. 250 defeated 18-year-old Milan Welte 7-6(7), 6-2 on Wednesday on Leo-Benz-Center Court in Großhesselohe.
Masur will take on Peter Gojowczyk, who edged past Kevin Krawietz 6-2, 7-5, in Thursday’s final round-robin match. “It was tough after break due to the coronavirus outbreak. It takes a little time to get back to rhythm. The fact that I won the match is positive. I look forward to tomorrow,” Gojowczyk said.
In Group 7, Yannick Hanfmann also celebrated his second win in as many matches of the competition. The World No. 143, who practices at the TennisBase Oberhaching, beat Tobias Simon 6-3, 6-2. “It is all about to get back to rhythm, playing many matches,” said Simon, who still has the chance to advance to the next stage. “That’s why I like the tournament here.”
Munich’s local favourite Matthias Bachinger lost to Germany’s reigning under-16 champion Max Rehberg 2-6, 4-6 and failed to qualify for the next round.
