STARNBERG, June 20, 2020
The opening round of the German Ladies‘ Series presented by Porsche concluded on Friday with the play-off matches in Stuttgart, Versmold and Darmstadt.
World No. 65 and the tournament’s top seed Laura Siegemund won the clay-court event in Stuttgart with a 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-1 victory over Anna Zaja in the final encounter of the day.
“After such a long time without a competition, it was important to finally get back on the court to see where you stand. Now it is important to keep up the level for the upcoming weeks,” Siegemund said. “The tournament is a very good chance to find your rhythm. The round-robin format is also a great opportunity for the juniors to build up confidence competing in good matches against established players.”
Katharina Gerlach emerged victorious from the event in Versmold following a 6-2, 6-3 win against Julia Middendorf. Tamara Korpatsch is the winner of the tournament in Darmstadt. The World No. 111 benefited from the retirement of Mona Barthel leading 6-4, 4-3.
