Tamara Korpatsch is the winner of the intermediate stage tournament of the German Ladies Series presented by Porsche held at the HTV Hannover. The 25-year-old from the Club an der Alster Hamburg benefited from the retirement of Anna Zaja leading 5-1 in Friday’s final play-off-match.
Julia Middendorf finished third. The 17-year-old defeated Lisa Matviyenko 6-1, 7-5 in the third-place play-off. “Following a second place in the first round, this is another remarkable result,” commented Julian Battmer, organizer of the event in Hannover.
Korpatsch and Zaja advance to the semi-finals. The duo will be joined by Laura Siegemund, who remained undefeated during the week in Darmstadt. The top seed beat Jule Niemayer in the final match. Local favourite Katharina Gerlach won the tournament in Kamen with a victory over Nastasja Schunk.
Two wild card entries will round out the semi-finals line-up. The tournament will be held from July 15 to 18 in Darmstadt.
