TA Press Release, July 14, 2020
Jason Kubler (Qld) and Maddison Inglis (WA) have claimed back-to-back UTR Pro Tennis Series titles in Brisbane.
Kubler won his second title in as many weeks with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Adam Walton on Pat Rafter Arena. Inglis also repeated last week’s success with a 7-6(6), 6-3 win over top seed Lizette Cabrera.
“I think we definitely both play really similar, and we do train together a lot, so we both kind of know a few of each other’s things that we do. It’s always a tough match with Lizette,” said Inglis, quoted by Tennis Australia.
“I think (I was) just staying calm and staying in the moment and just kept trying to play how I wanted to play, which was nice and aggressive and trying to dictate the points.
“I was lucky at the end of that tiebreak to get that … I think I just played well in those moments.”
Sydney’s Pool B finals take place tomorrow, with the final local Pool A event commencing on Thursday 16 July. In Brisbane Pool B action also starts tomorrow.
Matches are streamed live via Tennis Australia’s YouTube channel here.
The UTR Pro Tennis Series provides players with the opportunity to compete for $450,000 in prize money following the months-long suspension of the international tours due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is a key opportunity for players to return to tournament play. Strict biosecurity measures are in place at each event.
