After seven weeks of tennis and 150 matches across Germany, Yannick Hanfmann was crowned champion of the Tannenhof Resort German Men’s Series. The World No. 143 benefited from the retirement of Oscar Otte in Friday’s final at the Tennis Club Großhesselohe. Hanfmann was leading 7-5, 2-1 when Otte was forced to stop playing due to a foot injury.

“Of course it’s a shame that I had to give up today,” said Otte. “The pain started at the beginning of the week and got worse. Of course I want to congratulate my opponent. Yannick played good tennis and deserved to win today. The tournament series was really fun and I’m happy with my performance.”
“It feels a bit weird winning this way,” said Hanfmann, who practices at the TennisBase in Oberhaching and emerged victorious from 13 of his 16 matches during the DTB German Pro Series. “The past four days have been really good. The matches were at a high level. Playing in Munich twice was fun. I feel very comfortable here. It was a cool thing and we are very grateful that the DTB (German Tennis Federation) hosted this tournament.”
Both players are looking forward to the re-start of the ATP Challenger Tour and consider competing either in Prague, Czech Republic or Todi, Italy.
Earlier in the day, the third-place play-off match also ended with an injury. Maximilian Marterer took the third place after Cedrik-Marcel Stebe was forced to retire, as he hit himself accidentally with his racket and got a cut over his right eye.
