World No. 105 Jaume Munar of Spain advanced to the quarterfinals of the Concord Iasi Open following a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 victory over 19-year-old Romanian wild card entry Cezar Cretu on Wednesday morning. The No. 2 seed of the €88,520 ATP Challenger clay-court event converted four of his five break point chances to prevail after 68 minutes.
Munar will next take on No. 7 seed Joao Menezes of Brazil, who ended the run of another local teenager in Romania’s second-larges city. The World No, 195 defeated 18-year-old Filip Cristian Jianu 7-6(3), 6-2 in one hour and 39 minutes.
In the top half of the draw, Jurij Rodionov beat Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina 6-3, 6-4. The No. 4 seed from Austria hit seven aces and won 86 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 35 minutes. Up next for 21-year-old Rodionov will be Mathias Bourgue. The Frenchman eased past Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile, winning 6-1, 6-3 in 90 minutes.
