M15 Bucharest ROU – Timofei Skatov captures his second title of the season
Following his maiden title win at Antalya in January, Timofei Skatov clinched the trophy of the Ioana Cup hosted at Tennis Club Herastrau in Bucharest.
The 19-year-old Kazakh, who represented the Russian Tennis Federation between 2015 and 2018, battled past French qualifier Antoine Cornut Chauvinc in the stage of the final four in three sets.
Qualifier Franco Agamenone from Italy advanced to the final with a straight-set win against Romanian No. 5 seed Filip Cristian Jianu, who was ranked ITF World No. 5 as a junior last year.
In the championship match, Petropavl-born Skatov outpointed his 27-year-old rival 79-72 to secure a 6-4, 6-4 victory after two hours and 16 minutes. The former No. 1 in ITF World Junior Rankings celebrated his second career title on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
The No. 4 seeded Romanian tandem Stefan Palosi and Adrian Barbu clinched the doubles trophy, beating Georgii Kravchenko from the Ukraine and Polish Michal Dembek in the title match by the score of 6-4, 6-2.
M15 Sintra POR – Nuno Borges prevails in Portuguese affair
Nuno Borges claimed the trophy of the M15 Sintra I tournament held at Beloura Tennis Academy.
The 23-year-old edged out Spanish qualifier Nicolas Alvarez Varona, who reached a career high of World No. 7 in the ITF Junior Rankings last year, in the semi-finals in two sets.
Former World No. 57 Gastao Elias set the all-Portuguese title match by defeating No. 8 seed Lucas Catarina of Monaco in the stage of the last four in straight sets.
Maia native Borges capitalized on four of his 10 break-point chances in the championship match between two wild card entries to seal a 6-2, 6-2 win after 86 minutes. The former college player for the Mississippi State University lifted his eighth singles trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour, his second in 2020.
