M25 Porto POR – Gastao Elias with successful revenge 

Gastao Elias emerged victorious at the Porto Open 2020, held at Complexo Desportivo Monte Aventino, lifting his fifth trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour in addition to his seven titles on the ATP Challenger Tour.

The 29-year-old Portuguese stopped the run of Italian qualifier Giovanni Fonio in the stage of the last four in two sets.

Nuno Borges rallied down Stefan Kozlov from the United States in the second semi-final in straight sets.

In the championship match of two Portuguese wild card entriess, Lourinha-born Elias capitalized on four of his nine break-point opportunities to seal a 6-3, 6-3 victory after one hour and 24 minutes. The former World No. 57 avenged his loss against Borges in the final of the M25 event in Sintra three weeks ago.

“It was very important to be able to return to the victories. I am happy for that, especially because I won in Portugal. It was great for our tennis, two Portuguese players in the final, it couldn’t have been better,” Elias said during his post-match interview.

Johannes Haerteis and his German countryman Fabian Fallert clinched the doubles trophy, beating the top seeded French tandem of Dan Added and Sadio Doumbia in the title match 6-3, 7-6.

M15 Forbach FRA – Antoine Cornut Chauvinc captures maiden title

Antoine Cornut Chauvinc triumphed at the Internationaux de Forbach, hosted by US Forbach Tennis, to lift his first singles trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

The 20-year-old French advanced to the final with a straight-set win against Austrian No. 7 seed Alexander Erler, who is based at the AHM Tennis Academy of former tennis professional Andreas Haider-Maurer in Schwaz. 

No. 3 seed Michael Geerts from Belgium battled past German No. 8 seed Elmar Ejupovic in the stage of the final four in three sets.

Villeurbanne-born Cornut Chauvinc converted four of his 11 break-point chances in the championship match and lost only one service game to secure a 6-2, 6-4 win after one hour and 35 minutes. The No. 6 seed is coached by Thomas Paire, the older brother of colorful tennis professional Benoit Paire.

M25 Pardubice CZE – Uladzimir Ignatik ends title drought 

The Moneta Pardubice Open 2020, held at LTC Pardubice, concluded with the title win of Uladzimir Ignatik. 

The 30-year-old Belarusian, who clinched the title of the Roland Garros Junior Championships in 2007, edged out former junior’s World No. 1 Sebastian Baez from Argentina in the semi-finals in three sets.

Czech Jan Satral took the last step to the final by beating the tournament’s fourth favourite Lukas Klein from Slovakia in straight sets.

Unseeded Ignatik outpoined his opponent 58-40 in the championship to prevail 6-3, 6-2 in 73 minutes. The Minsk native, who reached a career-high ranking of World No. 129 in 2017, has hoisted his 18th career trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour in addition to his five titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. It has been his first title on Pro Circuit since 2017.

M15 Monastir TUN – Laurynas Grigelis continues his title series

Laurynas Grigelis is the champion of the Magic Tours tournament, hosted by Hotel Skanes Family in Monastir.

The Lithuanian No. 5 seed eased past Thiago Agustin Tirante from Argentina in the stage of the last four in two sets.

Slovenia’s Tom Kocevar-Desman advanced to the final with a straight-set win against last week’s Monastir champion Luca Potenza from Italy, who entered the tournament by special exempt.

Twety-nine-year-old Grigelis won 87 per cent of his first-service points in the championship match to claim a 6-1, 7-5 victory after one hour and 32 minutes. The Klaipeda native has lifted his 24th singles trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour in addition to his Challenger title in Aptos 2011, winning at least one title per season since 2013.
